T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named six people on Friday evening in an alleged graft case involving the admission of new students at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) in Purwokerto, Central Java.

The suspects are rector Akhmad Sodiq, vice rector for students’ affairs Norman Arie Yoga and head of academic and students’ affairs department, Eko Sumanto. KPK also named as suspects three private individuals, Dian Mulia Wardhana, Adhi Wiharto and Mulyono.

“KPK is detaining the suspects for 30 days since Friday until Sept. 9, at the Red and White Cooperative’s Building’s detention center,” KPK acting investigation director Ahmad Taufik Husein on Friday evening, as quoted by kompas.com.

KPK previously arrested 14 people on Thursday evening during a sting operation, with 12 arrested in Purwokerto and two others arrested in Jakarta. 

Taufik said that KPK confiscated Rp 665 million (US$37,677) in cash and Rp 99 million in bank accounts.

The 12 people were initially questioned at the Banyumas City Police before KPK brought seven people to Jakarta for further investigation. The two people arrested in Jakarta were also questioned in Jakarta.
