One distinctive feature that will characterize the incoming administration of president-elect Prabowo Subianto is an increase in the number of ministries and government agencies. Apart from splitting up existing ministries, Prabowo plans to overhaul the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry and establish his promised state revenue agency.

The plight of the Bakrie Group has not come to an end with its media arm entangled in massive debts. As the group’s crown prince forcefully took over the chairmanship of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), the Central Jakarta Commercial Court granted an extension of a debt payment suspension for four media companies under the Bakrie Group.

The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), the country’s highest democratic institution, has revoked or reviewed decrees that have besmirched the reputation of Sukarno, Soeharto and Abdurrahman “Gus Dur” Wahid, respectively Indonesia’s first, second and fourth presidents, all of who are deceased. While the gesture to restore the good names of Sukarno and Gus Dur has not stirred up controversy, some have objected to the Assembly’s attempt to clear the way for conferring National Hero status on authoritarian ruler Soeharto.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has stepped in to mediate the ongoing leadership dispute within the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), involving Anindya Bakrie and Arsjad Rasjid. Bahlil, who revealed the mediation through an Instagram post on Sept. 27,  claimed that both parties had reconciled and pledged to maintain unity within Kadin. He also warned that provocateurs were exploiting the rift, which, if allowed to fester, could harm the organization’s integrity.

After days of back and forth, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has dropped plans to question President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s youngest son Kaesang Pangarep to clarify the details regarding his lavish private jet trip to the United States, despite mounting public pressure to investigate. This decision further shows the KPK’s lack of seriousness and efforts to combat corruption without discrimination.

A rushed law revision might allow Prabowo Subianto to build a big-tent coalition government after he is inaugurated on Oct. 20 as Indonesia’s eighth president, but the bigger question is if he has the skill and acumen to manage the diverse political parties and pressure groups he is bringing into the fold.

With his ambitions momentarily stymied, speculation is rife about his next move. Anies has said he is considering forming a new political party to maintain his relevance until the 2029 presidential election.

President-elect Prabowo Subianto intends to divide the Public Development and Housing (PUPR) Ministry into two separate entities: one focused exclusively on housing, and the other on infrastructure development, effectively undoing the 2014 merger that created the PUPR Ministry. This decision underscores the new administration's shift in priorities, placing greater emphasis on the housing sector, with an ambitious target to construct 15 million homes by the end of Prabowo's term.

The two men have agreed to dispense with the need for a transitional team.

Nine out of 76 candidates in the running to become Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) members for the 2024 – 2029 period are politicians from political parties in the Onward Indonesia Coalition Plus (KIM Plus) supporting president-elect Prabowo Subianto. The final decision on the new BPK members will be made later in September and will be sealed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, whose term will end in less than two months.
