T

he transfer of the 4.5-generation KF-21 fighter jet prototype to Indonesia is still waiting for the transfer mechanism, an official from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) said on Thursday.

“Both governments have reached an agreement to transfer one prototype aircraft to Indonesia,” KAI international business development Asia team 2 leader Park Seonghee said, as quoted by Antara news agency from Sacheon, South Korea.

“Currently both governments are deliberating the transfer mechanism, especially related to the technology and its schedule.”

The delivery package is worth some 600 billion Korean won (US$395.25 million), consisting of 350 billion won for the fighter jet and various components of other development costs.

He said the KF-21 program, initially known as the KF-X, has been discussed since President Prabowo Subianto was defense minister and remains a part of strategic cooperation for both countries.

The project discussion also went in a constructive way during Prabowo’s visit to South Korea in April.

“The program is going well and currently we are completing the contract,” Park said.
