ndonesia secured a place in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-19 soccer Championship semifinals after defeating Vietnam 2-1 in their final Group A match at North Sumatra Main Stadium in Deli Serdang regency on Sunday night.
The victory secured top spot in Group A for the young Garudas, who finished with a perfect nine points from three matches. Vietnam, meanwhile, placed second with six points from three games.

During Sunday’s match, Indonesia took the lead in the 22nd minute through Reno Salampessy, who unleashed a powerful strike past Vietnam goalkeeper Xuan Tion Hoa after skillfully beating a defender. The goal gave the hosts a 1-0 advantage, which they maintained until halftime.
Vietnam emerged from the break with greater attacking intent and eventually found an equalizer in the 74th minute. Nguyen Quoc Khanh rose highest to head home from a corner kick, leaving Indonesia goalkeeper Dafa Al Gasemi with no chance and bringing the score level at 1-1.
Tempers boiled over in the 81st minute when a member of Vietnam’s coaching staff obstructed an Indonesian player preparing to take a throw-in, triggering a heated exchange on the touchline.
Referee Tanimoto Ryo of Japan quickly stepped in to restore order, issuing yellow cards to Vietnam head coach Yutaka Ikeuchi and Indonesia head coach Nova Arianto for their involvement in the ensuing protests. The Vietnamese official at the center of the incident was shown a straight red card and expelled from the technical area.
