Approaching dusk, people appear to be busier in Malioboro – a tourist area in Yogyakarta where visitors can shop at street kiosks.

During Ramadan, however, business is slightly different. Several people are seen laying out floor mats while others prepare meal boxes and hot sweetened tea.

On the side of the road in Malioboro, there is a big banner that invites people, from locals to foreigners, to enjoy free iftar.

Around 250 meal boxes – containing rice and side dishes – are prepared for iftar to show their solidarity with fasting Muslims during Ramadan. [yan]
