One killed, dozens injured after 6.7-magnitude quake hits Central Sulawesi
At least one person was killed and dozens were injured after a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck Central Sulawesi on Tuesday, causing widespread damage to homes, public buildings and critical infrastructure.
The earthquake struck at approximately 10:30 a.m., according to authorities. The epicenter was located about 54 kilometers northwest of Poso City at a depth of 10 km.
Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 118 aftershocks following the main quake, including two relatively strong tremors: a magnitude 4.5 aftershock at 10:38 a.m. and a magnitude 5.2 event at 11:11 a.m.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said nearly 5,800 people were affected across four regencies and one city across Central Sulawesi, including Palu, Poso, Donggala, Parigi Moutong and Sigi, with Sigi sustaining the most severe damage.

BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari said many residents remain reluctant to return to their homes amid continuing aftershocks and fears of additional seismic activity.
