outh Korean airline Jeju Air has officially suspended the Batam, Riau Islands–Incheon, South Korea route for the summer schedule, from June 1 to Oct. 24, dealing a blow to Hang Nadim International Airport’s efforts to expand international routes to East Asia.
Airport operator PT Bandara International Batam (BIB) president director Annang Setia Budhi confirmed the route suspension on Friday.
"BIB has received official information from Jeju Air regarding the temporary suspension of the Batam–Incheon direct flight from June 1 to Oct. 24," Annang said in a written statement.
He said the decision was part of the airline’s operational policy and business evaluation.
According to communications between BIB and Jeju Air, the route is scheduled to resume once the temporary suspension ends, subject to conditions in the airline industry and international travel market.
“PT BIB maintains communications and coordination with Jeju Air and expects direct flight service between Batam and Incheon to be resumed as planned [...] so connectivity between Indonesia and South Korea can be maintained,” he said.
Previously, Jeju Air had a twice-weekly service connecting Hang Nadim with Incheon International Airport.
