efense attachés accredited in Indonesia have visited the Batam Free Trade Zone Authority (BP Batam) on Wednesday to gain firsthand understanding of the national defense industry, especially in the shipyard sector.
The trip was part of the Defense Attaché Tour 2026, an annual event arranged by the Defense Ministry.
BP Batam deputy head, Li Claudia Chandra, said the visit was part of an important momentum to introduce Batam’s position as a free trade zone, investment center and border area playing an important role in supporting regional stability and cooperation.
She also appreciated the trust given to Batam as one of the destinations for the defense attachés.
“Batam has a strategic position as a free trade zone and free port bordering directly with neighboring countries,” said Li, who is also Batam vice mayor, as quoted by a press release by the Batam city administration.
“This position requires security issues play an important role in supporting investment and regional development growth.”
She said that the defense attachés presence was symbol of international trust on stability in Indonesia, and especially in Batam.
