or many Gojek drivers, the road has long been more than a route between destinations. It is where they spend hours each day working to support their families, pursue their aspirations and create opportunities for the next generation.

This year, for more than 150 drivers and their children, that journey is taking them somewhere new: a university degree.

Through the expanded Gojek Scholarship Program, Gojek and the GoTo Merah Putih Foundation are helping open the doors to higher education for driver-partners and their families, turning years of perseverance into a pathway toward a degree.

For 2026, the program places greater emphasis on helping beneficiaries gain admission to some of Indonesia’s most prestigious universities, including the University of Indonesia (UI), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM). According to data from the foundation, 54.7 percent of scholarship recipients have been accepted into science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs, while 45.3 percent are pursuing degrees in the social sciences and humanities.

Amelia Callista, chairwoman of the GoTo Merah Putih Foundation, said the scholarship program received thousands of applications from across the country, reflecting the strong aspirations of driver partners and their families to pursue higher education.

"Behind every application is a story of resilience, hard work and hope,” she said.

“Many applicants have overcome setbacks and obstacles on their journey, but the encouragement and support of their families have given them the strength to keep moving forward and pursue their dreams.”

Among this year’s beneficiaries is Simon Vega Rumaijuk, an active Gojek driver in Medan, North Sumatra, who, in his busy days as a driver, kept his dream ever closer. Between completing orders, Simon remained committed to pursuing his passion for music. His dedication culminated in June 2026, when he was accepted into the undergraduate Music Education program at Medan State University (UNIMED).

"The scholarship means more than financial support. It brings me closer to a dream I have carried for years, and gives me the opportunity to continue my education while doing what I love most. I hope one day I can make my family proud through what I achieve," said Simon.

Another beneficiary was Rahma Aqilah Haziqah, the daughter of a GoCar driver, who was recently admitted into the Faculty of Pharmacy at UI. Rahma, who aims to pursue a career in pharmaceutical and cosmetic research and development, credited her father's resilience as a ride-hailing driver for keeping her motivated after she fell short in the merit-based selection track (SNBP).

Hans Patuwo, CEO of GoTo Group, said the expansion of the scholarship program reflects the company's long-term commitment to improving the welfare of driver partners and their families.

"We understand that behind every journey our drivers make each day, there is a dream they are striving for. By expanding access to higher education, we hope to unlock more opportunities for them to grow and achieve a better quality of life," he said.

The opportunity for driver-partners as one of the eligible beneficiaries this year marks an important step toward making higher education more accessible within the Gojek ecosystem.

Through the Gojek Scholarship Program, Gojek along with the GoTo Merah Putih Foundation aim to open up paths for drivers and families towards a better future.
