rivate lender Citibank Indonesia has reported sluggish credit disbursement in 2025 as the company seeks to maintain a “cautious” approach.
The bank’s loan issuance dropped 1.7 percent year-on-year (yoy) to Rp 26.9 trillion (US$1.55 billion) last year, according to its financial report.
Citibank Indonesia CEO Batara Sianturi said at a press conference on Thursday that the decline was partly attributed to the company’s “cautious and prudent” approach.
He added that some clients also had opted not to refinance loans, while others had turned to capital markets, such as by issuing bonds. “Once that’s successful, they usually don’t want to switch [back to bank loans],” he said.
However, Batara pointed out that Citi’s credit disbursement had improved compared to the steep 10.7 percent decline seen in the third quarter of 2025, thanks to increased lending across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, telecommunications and agribusiness.
Citi’s loan-to-deposit ratio declined to 41.99 percent in 2025 from 45.56 percent in the previous year, while its nonperforming loan ratio remained low at 0.03 percent.
Meanwhile, the bank’s third-party funds grew by 7.9 percent to Rp 60.2 trillion in the same period, reflecting ample liquidity.
